I have type 2 diabetes and today when I checked by blood sugar it was 135. I went for a brisk walk for about 15 min. and when I re checked my blood sugar it went down to 87
I am 29 weeks pregnant. My fasting blood sugar test result was 86. My first result one hour after drinking the nasty glucola (100mg) was 202. My second result was 150 and my third was 136. So I clearly failed 1 of the 3 which according to everything I’ve read means I DO NOT have gestational diabetes. However, rather than the doctor calling to tell me what it does mean, some medical assistant calls to assure me that I don’t have GD but I do have glucose intolerance or impaired glucose tolerance (IGT). However she can’t really tell me what that means but instead emails me a meal plan for gestational diabetes and tells me a nutritionist will call me on Monday and then reassures me I don’t have GD. So now I have to go through the weekend with the following questions. Maybe someone out there can help me answer:
1. With IGT am I at risk of having gestational diabetes?
2. How is this going to effect my baby?
3. Why do I have to follow a GD menu plan if I don’t have GD?
4. How can the blood test be the only determining factor for IGT or GD if in my case all my urine samples have been normal, my blood pressure is perfect, I have no family history of diabetes, I’ve only gained 8 pounds in this pregnancy and I have no other symptoms?
5. Does having IGT mean that I am at risk for Type 2 diabetes later in life?
Also, what is the difference between having Gestational Diabetes and Impaired Glucose Tolerance if they are treated the same way?

The value range for the Glucose Tolerance Test is:
Fasting 95 mg/dl or higher
One hour 180 mg/dl or higher
Two hours 155 mg/dl or higher
Three hours 140 mg/dl or higher
And (not including the fasting results) a person only has to pass 2 of 3 to be cleared of GD. So the person who left the comment that a normal range is 80 to 120 is not correct for this scenario.
I have recently been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and need to monitor my blood sugar while experimenting on various food combinations (using the Glycemic Index and Glycemic Load).
I live in Metro Manila, Philippines, so please try limit your suggestions to test kits that I can actually buy here (not online as the freight cost alone would be prohibitive).
If possible, please indicate where I can buy it and for how much. I’ve read that it’s better to look for test kits whose refills are cheaper so that in the long run it will cost less than the cheaper testers that come with more expensive refill packs.
I know there are several choices at Mercury Drug Store, but need your help in identifying the reliable and cost-effective ones. I also have heard that they also sell this in Manila (somewhere near Tayuman) at medical supply stores, but also need your opinion as to the test kits available there. I understand that these test kits are cheaper there than those in Mercury Drug Store. I haven’t been to Watson’s Drugstore yet, but I assume they also carry some testers there.
Hope you can help me.
Thanks In Advance.
Yes, the bigger drugstores here are Mercury Drug and Watson’s. But somebody told me that glucose meters are cheaper to buy in medical supply stores. Unfortunately, I’m not sure what are the reliable brands. Since most, if not all, of these products are now made in China, I need to be certain that the glucose meter I buy is of a reliable brand. IMHO, a lot of generic/unbranded items made in China are unreliable and are not durable.
Unfortunately, here in my country they do not give away glucose meters. They can cost anywhere around to . And the monthly refill packs that I’ve heard of cost around and upwards. I’m not sure, but I think there are some people selling 2-month refill packs for just .
For those not familiar with the Philippines, could you just please indicate the reliable brands/models that are in your area (or that you know of) and I’ll check if they are also being sold here.

I wonder how it works…any idea///
heard from the radio this morning….in Britain they have almost perfected the formula and on trial with twice daily dose for Type 2 Diabetes.
I am interested in finding out any and all alternative (besides the regular medical advice) type 2 diabetes treatments.Any answers are welcome-thanks.
I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in March of 06. I have been taking Actoplus Met (or is it Actomet Plus?) since then and my blood sugar levels are an average of 90 to 100, no higher than 115. Is that a good level to stay at or do I need to get down into the 80’s and try and stay there. I can usually pull off maybe 2 or 3 days in a week where my morning blood sugar level is in the 80’s but mostly it stays in the low 90’s. I am just curious as to what is a good, better, & best blood sugar level?
I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 4 days ago. I need to test my blood sugar, but I’m not used to the "prick" the lancet gives you on your finger yet. Would it be possible for me to test it on my thumb so there is less pain?
