the female is about 5′2" and roughly 100 lbs overweight. when the blood test was taken the last meal was half a bagel and a cup of unsweetened coffee. about 2 hours prior to the test.

i am 14 years old, i am 5′3" and about 109 pounds. i play sports, not overweight and i’m pretty short. can someone tell me what my blood sugar level should be because my dad had diabetes and i’m concerned that i have it. i asked a question before and i forgot to ask what my level should be. so if you could tell me what it should be and where i can get tested, i will pick you as a best answer.

Over the past 4 years, my annual glucose tests have always been about 118. Doctor always says a little high. That’s it. Diabetes runs in my family. Do I have diabetes or should I see someone else? I always fast longer than they say to get a really accurate reading. How high is high enough to determine diabetes?
It was 10 hr fast. They said don’t eat or drink after midnight. My test was at 8:00 in the morning. I hadn’t eaten or had anything to drink except water after 10:00. Thanks for the help.
I’m asking because no other test was suggested. I’m not sick often and thought my once a year visit with a "well it’s a little high" might mean I was pre-diabetic without it being noticed. The days of the family physician who pays attention to details seems to be about gone. It’s in, quick visit, thanks for coming, see ya next year…next patient. Pay your co-pay at the window please. $$$$$$$ I didn’t want to insist on another test if my numbers didn’t warrant it, I guess. Don’t drink pop all day long or eat chips, baked products and empty calorie foods. Could exercise more probably. Thanks again.

Dr. Neal Barnard & Dr. Dean Ornish & Dr. McDougal & Dr. T. Colin Campbell all present convincing studies that suggest that a pure vegetarian diet is effective in reducing or eliminating the need for the drug treatment of diabetes.

Would you be willing to try a pure vegetarian diet as suggested by Dr. Dean Ornish to help reduce the need for medication?

WARNING: Use of insulin on this diet can cause low blood sugar. Talk to your doctor about a diet change first.
"No. Have you?"

Yes. I had relatively high blood sugar (nearly diabetic). After changing to a pure vegetarian (vegan) diet, I lost 50 pounds and kept it off. My blood sugar level is very healthy now as are all the other blood test results.

The vegans who have been scientifically studied live an additional 7-10 years, and they have a lower risk for heart disease, diabetes, cancers, stroke, and other diseases of affluence including osteoporosis.

Civic:

The research I’ve found suggests that Native Americans who now eat the standard American diet were overweight and more prone to diabetes. If you make such a claim, please add your reference source. I’m honestly interested in the truth about diet, and I find your claim hard to swallow.

I just took a blood sugar test with one of the testing kits that my diabetic colleague has. It read "99." I hadn’t eaten for approximately 12 hours when I took the test. What should I do?

I just wanted to know if glucose tests and CBC test are necessary if no symptoms are evident of any health problems in a 14 year old boy. Give your reasoning please!
What if the doctor didn’t really recommended but my mom just want me to have one for about no reason? =/
"what if my mom wanted me to have one"

I’m so sorry for the trouble but I have one last questions of what some say to my "soon to be" diabetes. Tomorrow I am going to the doctor for testing, yes, for diabetes. I don’t know what to expect because they list many tests that I guess I will be doing. Examples like I think it is called a "C-peptide" test for my blood sugar. I am very scared, sorry but any help or encouragement is greatly appreciated!

1.
"Even with successful treatment, diabetes survivors are at risk of serious complications, such as CV disease, kidney failure, and blindness"

2.
"Truly successful treatment minimizes complications by narrowing the gap between a healthy glucose homeostasis pattern and that derived from therapeutic treatment"
-Matching basal and post-prandial glucose and insulin levels to those of healthy individuals.
-Individuals have different levels of dysfunction.

What’s the second point trying to say?
And what’s it mean by basal and post-pranial glucose/insulin levels?

Would an ordinary "blood test" catch low blood sugar/hypoglycemia? If so, can the results regarding blood sugar be false?
