I’m asking this for both myself and my wife actually. We’re both Type 2, although mine is more controlled, with readings between 90-125 on average. We’ve both recently started individual exercise programs, and she’s frustrated with her blood sugar. I wasn’t with mine until this morning. I woke up, went to the gym right away, worked out for 90 minutes, had plenty of water, and my blood sugar read 126. (fasting).
Can anyone point to any information on the web about this? By the way, my morning blood sugars have been pretty decent for the last week, hovering between 100-120, so, this higher reading was surprising, especially after a decent workout. I’m trying to get information that’s informative for my wife as well. So links specific to this topic would be great. Thanks!
Edited to add: currently, our Type 2 diabetes is controlled by diet and exercise alone. As of today, neither one of us is on metformin (the medication we’ve been prescribed in the past).
why is my blood sugar level lower on the mornings after I have eaten popcorn in the evening?

I am diabetic, on metformin.
my brother is diabetic and it is II type. He is taking the combination therapy Glibenclamid and Metformin, but his blood glucose level is rising . it about 250mg/dl and he is in trouble now. is doctor is advising him to take insulin but he has a field work. because he is a solider. please if you have a solution for this problem if there is another treatment option or management for this case.
I am a type 2 diabetic taking Metformin twice a day. When I check my blood sugar it is around 118-125 in the morning when I get up. During the day when I check it it is anywhere from 87-145. Is this normal?

Diabetes Testing Result?
05/07/10
I just learned that I’m diabetic, and been testing myself 2-3 times a day for several days now. Here’s the result, and I wanna see what you guys think.
At morning, it’s usually 80 to 95
Eat breakfast, goes to 130 or so, and than take my metformin (1000mg)
Work, 5 hours later, lunch. Numbers varies from 140 to 170 cause I eat a lot.
Than 5 hours later, dinner. Numbers varies, depending if I eat higher carb items like rices but the last few nights, around 122 to 150. I spike once to 200 with rices.(than 1k mg of medicine)
Maybe a snack before bed, though I don’t test.
I test these all of them one day and tested from every 10 minutes after i started meal to see what my number peaks are at. I’ve read that it should be 180 or less after a meal, and test 1 or 2 hours after eating. Well, my highest number happen to be at 30 minutes and 50 minutes. SHould I trust those numbers? At 2 hours, It goes to fasting numbers.
Thanks.
p.s: my medicine is a 12 hours differences, 2000mg a day. But eat and test before I take the medicine.
Thanks, I already research pretty badly on this subject. As for diets, I’m attempting what I think is best, and the results aren’t that bad. Losing 15 pounds in 3 weeks, numbers (imo) is well within normal. Plus, 2 hours after meal? That’s not what works best for me. 2 hours for me would be back at fasting level, because I process food pretty damn fast so the peak glucose result is usually at 30 to 1 hours. And I got no doctor to go talk to, expensive and no insurance. So, I’ll have to make do with what I learn. Thanks all.
I am takeing 3 pills a day and I still find myself hovering around 160’s – 190’s 1 pill is metformin 500mg 2 times a day and the the other is Amaryl 1mg. Every morning when I get up my numbers are higher then any other time of the day. What can I do to help get my sugar levels down more. I am a long ways from 100-120 which I understand to be normal.
My blood sugar has been on average 320 for the last five days. I am new to diabetes so I asked my doc. All she did was up one of my pills (glucophag) by one dose a day. That was 2 days ago and there is no change. I am at 344 right now and I don’t feel well. I just hate to go to the emergency room if it isn’t urgent.
Any suggestions are helpful. I am on metformin and glucophag and do diet and exercise to stay level. It all worked until suddenly five days ago. All of a sudden, it went to 465 and has bounced from 220 to 385 since.
I spoke to my new doctors nurse and she said to pound down water til I could see him today. It helped!
Thanks to all who answered. It’s scary being lost in a new illness and depressing so searching for the answers was just making it worse. Now, I am on insulin so I should be doing better in no time.
Clarification on blood test, difference between blood sugar test and insulin level in my blood?
04/06/10
I had a blood test done by my ob/gyn, i have poly cystic ovarian syndrome. The blood test showed my glucose serum result at 111 (I know this is the blood sugar test). It also showed the The insulin level in my blood at 93.6 which is high the norm being 0.0-29.1. My doctor was very concerned he put me on Metformin because it can help with PCOS and he worries that I will get diabetes as well. Can someone tell me the difference and why my insulin level in my blood would be so high? Pancreas? I also have a high C-Reactive Protein Level and Creatine level. I have to get Corticosteroid shots which really tick my doctor off because he says that shoots my blood sugar up. Any help?
I’m asking because my boyfriend is recently diagnosed with Diabetes. The past two months, with all the Metformin, Avandia, Lantus, Novalog, needles, gauze, alcohol, meter strips, etc. We are struggling. His health insurance only provides 00 gross towards prescriptions PER YEAR. We are very quickly coming up on that 00 and it hasn’t even been 6 months. I’m curious to know, are we doing something wrong? Why can’t we afford this treatment? It seems like a good many Americans have Diabetes, how does everyone else afford the many prescriptions? We’re freaking out, because we don’t have the money for rent, gas, food, etc. We feel like the Diabetes treatment has to come first, but all these co-pays for specialists and prescriptions has drained our wallets, we can’t buy food, nevermind entertainment. How does everyone else afford this?! What can we do?
