I was recently diagnosed with diabetes (controlled through exercise and diet, no meds at this time). I’ve gone to a ton of websites and read literature on diabetes, but cannot find a straight answer about testing my blood sugar.
For diabetics out there….
When should I test?
Should I test after fasting (say after sleeping) or before a meal?
How soon after a meal should I test?
How many times a day?
Thanks for your help! ![]()
A friend has diabetes, but no insurance. What is the best way to temporarily lower his blood sugar?
12/07/10
He is tking some meds, but still his sugar level gets too high. Any suggestions?
It is a blood glucose test, I have had them done repeatedly over the years and they are always negative. I just have a borderline high blood sugar, been that way for 36 years. I did have some other blood workups done regarding the same problem for her all of them returned borderline. She then refused to refill the my meds till I have the bloodtest done. Is this considered etheical? They are for heart and stroke problems.
I took a home Glucose blood test prior to breakfast (home diabetes test) Results was in the 60’s mg/dl (clearly below 75 and above 50) –
** Is that good, or is that something I need to watch? **
Because I am self employed & not w/a group insurance I don’t want any test results on my medical record.
I don’t take any type of meds. I have never had any type of diagnostic. This was a self home test where you match the colors. This was before breakfast and results was clearly somewhere mid point between 75mg/dl and 50mg/dl (in the 60’s). So I wondered if a fasting test, wtih that score was good or what. I do have a very sweet tooth. I am trying to save money by not going to the doctor & I don’t want any negitive results on my perm medical record.
This was a test to see if I could have Diabetes. My reading of these results would be no I do not. My next test will be a cholestrial test.
I usually have to wait 3 full hours after eating before I can take the meds or it won’t have the full effect and I feel sick all day.
Can it cause low blood sugar too?
It is physical and not mental. I have had the tests done and I am one of the 1% of the thyroid problems that have an opposite reaction to low thyroid. My adrenal system kicks when the thyroid is low and I get same day results from the meds. I have had to PROVE it to several Doctors. I made them create 6 regular synthroid pills and one fake and put them in identical capsules and place them in my pill tray. I was able to accurately tell them the day that I got the fake one. EVERY TIME. I actually lose weight if I stop taking the pills and can’t eat or sleep because my stomach gets all knotted up and I get raging runs.
No one believes me until I prove it but there are 1% of us out there.
How To Lower High Blood Sugar?
17/06/10
my mom has type 2 diabetes shes been off meds since 2005? we dnt have medical & have been trying but havent heard back yet but we think her blood sugar is high is there anyway we can lower it?
I was recently diagnosed with type 2. I am sure that I was a consistant high 200’s before. I took some meds which brought it in the high 90’s to low 100’s. I had all the symptoms of low blood sugar. Even now, at 150 I have those feelings, dizzy, etc. How long does it take the body to adjust to lower levels. The doctor said they like to bring it down slow, but mine came down in a week, and they are letting me try with diet only. I am trying to do what is right, but I feel horrible, can’t concentrate at times. I know it is an adjustment, but, how long?
I am a type 2 diabetic and my meds aren’t really working for me I tested myself a few mins ago and it was close to 500, higher then ever before. I have been told before how to lower it quickly but cannot remember now that I need it. I am looking for something to bring it down immediatly. Thank you
thanks for the concern and yes my wife is here to watch over me
Can I use a glass of wine on an empty stomach before dinner to lower my blood sugar level? My level is around 121 when I am fasting the last time I checked. I dont take any meds or insulin so I figure this would be a good way to lower it.
