I’ve been worried about my blood sugar since i have a history of diabetes in my family,im over weight and im trying to loose the weight at this point in my life.Im hoping someone could let me know if this is considered high,my blood sugar has been between 103 and 110 in the am the last few days with no symptoms, should i worry? At the moment i have no insurance to see a doctor.
age 23. newly diagnosed diabetic. taking metformin and insulin (10 units) once in the morning. just tested my blood glucose because my eyes were hurting and it was at 415. no insurance. called the health clinic to get advice. no one available to answer. is it safe to take another dose of insulin to get my numbers down fast?
My brother is (in his doctor’s words) a borderline diabetic. The last 3 times he’s tested after a 12 hour fasting period (with no cheating) he has had a result of 119, 118 and 119. He wants to keep from going over and loosing his medical insurance opportunity when his group policy is no longer going to cover him (that’s a complicated story). When he has to get private insurance, a single high reading for glucose can do great harm to his costs and/or his acceptability by the company. Can he do anything by way of diet or exorcise, for the days leading up to the test that would give him more favorable results by lowering the outcome of the test short term? Perhaps he will take the preventative measure and turn it into a routine. Then he won’t have to worry about such things.
I took a home Glucose blood test prior to breakfast (home diabetes test) Results was in the 60’s mg/dl (clearly below 75 and above 50) –
** Is that good, or is that something I need to watch? **
Because I am self employed & not w/a group insurance I don’t want any test results on my medical record.
I don’t take any type of meds. I have never had any type of diagnostic. This was a self home test where you match the colors. This was before breakfast and results was clearly somewhere mid point between 75mg/dl and 50mg/dl (in the 60’s). So I wondered if a fasting test, wtih that score was good or what. I do have a very sweet tooth. I am trying to save money by not going to the doctor & I don’t want any negitive results on my perm medical record.
This was a test to see if I could have Diabetes. My reading of these results would be no I do not. My next test will be a cholestrial test.
Diabetes Testing Result?
05/07/10
I just learned that I’m diabetic, and been testing myself 2-3 times a day for several days now. Here’s the result, and I wanna see what you guys think.
At morning, it’s usually 80 to 95
Eat breakfast, goes to 130 or so, and than take my metformin (1000mg)
Work, 5 hours later, lunch. Numbers varies from 140 to 170 cause I eat a lot.
Than 5 hours later, dinner. Numbers varies, depending if I eat higher carb items like rices but the last few nights, around 122 to 150. I spike once to 200 with rices.(than 1k mg of medicine)
Maybe a snack before bed, though I don’t test.
I test these all of them one day and tested from every 10 minutes after i started meal to see what my number peaks are at. I’ve read that it should be 180 or less after a meal, and test 1 or 2 hours after eating. Well, my highest number happen to be at 30 minutes and 50 minutes. SHould I trust those numbers? At 2 hours, It goes to fasting numbers.
Thanks.
p.s: my medicine is a 12 hours differences, 2000mg a day. But eat and test before I take the medicine.
Thanks, I already research pretty badly on this subject. As for diets, I’m attempting what I think is best, and the results aren’t that bad. Losing 15 pounds in 3 weeks, numbers (imo) is well within normal. Plus, 2 hours after meal? That’s not what works best for me. 2 hours for me would be back at fasting level, because I process food pretty damn fast so the peak glucose result is usually at 30 to 1 hours. And I got no doctor to go talk to, expensive and no insurance. So, I’ll have to make do with what I learn. Thanks all.
Does anyone know of a place or site for free or cheap test strips? Everywhere I check they are like 0 for 100 strips and I’m out. This is all new to me.
Thanks
I have no income and no insurance at all of any kind.. They gave me the Contour at the Dr a week ago and said learn how to use it ect… It will be billed to me later..

could a person with diabetes test positive for alcohol after drinking a lot of apple juice?
27/06/10
A friend of mine is not taking medication for diabetes because he has no money or insurance. He drank apple juice to try to keep his sugar level good and then he tested positive for alcohol. Could this be true?
I was getting ready to have him go to the free clinic when this occurred; he was living at a homeless shelter and they kicked him out; I don’t know where he is now but he does realize how important it is that he gets some medication/treatment for his diabetes.
Has anyone ever had trouble getting reimbursed from Caremark for diabetes testing supplies?
30/05/10
In August of 2007 (11 months ago) I purchased test strips for my One Touch glucometer. I called my insurance company to ask what they needed me to send in. I sent it. No reimbursement. I called again and they said I needed a special form. Again, I sent it in and no reimbursement. Then I was told the address was wrong. Now they are saying they have no record of my filing the claim (although they did before). I think they are trying to get me to give up. I cannot afford strips out of pocket and this is what I am paying insurance premiums for to begin with. They are supposed to cover diabetes supplies. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I go the Better Business Bureau? Should I consult a lawyer? My hemoglobin A1c keeps getting worse because I have not been able to purchase test strips without reimbursement. I feel like I have a valid lawsuit, but I am only one person going against a big corporation. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
How much does a diabetes test cost?
