I am 29 weeks pregnant. My fasting blood sugar test result was 86. My first result one hour after drinking the nasty glucola (100mg) was 202. My second result was 150 and my third was 136. So I clearly failed 1 of the 3 which according to everything I’ve read means I DO NOT have gestational diabetes. However, rather than the doctor calling to tell me what it does mean, some medical assistant calls to assure me that I don’t have GD but I do have glucose intolerance or impaired glucose tolerance (IGT). However she can’t really tell me what that means but instead emails me a meal plan for gestational diabetes and tells me a nutritionist will call me on Monday and then reassures me I don’t have GD. So now I have to go through the weekend with the following questions. Maybe someone out there can help me answer:
1. With IGT am I at risk of having gestational diabetes?
2. How is this going to effect my baby?
3. Why do I have to follow a GD menu plan if I don’t have GD?
4. How can the blood test be the only determining factor for IGT or GD if in my case all my urine samples have been normal, my blood pressure is perfect, I have no family history of diabetes, I’ve only gained 8 pounds in this pregnancy and I have no other symptoms?
5. Does having IGT mean that I am at risk for Type 2 diabetes later in life?
Also, what is the difference between having Gestational Diabetes and Impaired Glucose Tolerance if they are treated the same way?

The value range for the Glucose Tolerance Test is:
Fasting 95 mg/dl or higher
One hour 180 mg/dl or higher
Two hours 155 mg/dl or higher
Three hours 140 mg/dl or higher

And (not including the fasting results) a person only has to pass 2 of 3 to be cleared of GD. So the person who left the comment that a normal range is 80 to 120 is not correct for this scenario.

My blood sugar is almost always pretty good, but this morning when I tested it myself it was too high, and just my luck, first thing today I had to present myself to the lab for my fasting blood sugar test and I have to see the doctor in a few days. I’m counting on the lab work to show a more accurate picture than my home glucometer does, but I work really hard to control this with exercise, diet and maintaining a normal weight, so I’ve been kind of bummed out today and I’m afraid I’m going to get a medication adjustment. Does the same thing happen to you?
Thank you, everyone, for your kind responses.

so now i just ate a couple slices of pizza with yogurt. so i will see what it is after that but should i wait an hour or 2? also i had a fasting glucose test that was 111 but it’s odd that my blood sugar level after work and not eating for several hours was 77…? why is it low now…? i have changed my diet the past 2 wks and have cut sugar and alot of carbs but i’m just wondering why the fluctuation…
fyi-i had the fasting blood test 2 wks ago and i know it’s the 3 month accumulation but i exercised before the test and also was taking an herb that causes a low/high blood sugar so i stopped taking that herb too.
no no no—i think you misunderstood…when i got tested for the fasting glucose test – i was taking that herb that tends to raise or lower blood sugar but it’s only what i read so ask your doctor before doing anything. it is fo-ti. i’m just wondering since my blood sugar is normal NOW if that was the cause of the elevated fasting blood sugar (111).
FYI i STOPPED taking fo-ti after the fasting test when i heard it could mess up my blood sugar levels…

After checking with fasting blood sugar and post-prandial tests, my post-prandial blood sugar was showing 143, so I went on a strict diet and exercise routine and within 2 weeks, my fasting blood sugar showed 89 and post-prandial blood sugar showed 116. So, is it safe now for me to start eating sugary and oily foods once again, or will blood sugar go up once again, and do I have to still continue with my strict dieting and exercise routine?

This month has been pretty hectic for me and I have been to the Dr at least 5 times ( trying to figure out my heart issues). Two of the times I have went I had a fasting blood sugar test. The 1st time it was 114 and the test I had today was 120. Im 20 years old, Female, 5′1 110pounds. I went 15 hours without eating before these tests. I watch what I eat (Dr gave me a heart smart diet) She seemed a bit concerned today but didnt mention anything about it because she was more concerned about my white blood cells being elevated. Should I be worried about my fasting sugar being like this? Could my sugar being high cause my heart rate and blood pressure to increase? Thanks for any help.
Oh if it makes any difference. On my dads side of the family, My great uncle( passed away), My Aunt, and my cousin all have had diabetes. On my moms side my Great Grandma had it

Blood sugar?

Ihave non fasting blood sugar 160 I’am diabetes or not

This was a fasting blood sugar taken at 7:45 this morning.

He also tends to drink and pee alot.
Keep in mind this is FASTING!

Fasting means he ate at about 6:00pm yesterday and nothing since.

His mom is a type 1 diabetic.
He has had no sugar in the past 12 hours at least. He had one piece of round table pizza yesterday at about 6pm.

I have had problems with low blood sugar for several years. Last week I felt jittery and thought it a good idea to test my fasting blood sugar. It was 171. Later that afternoon it spiked at 237. Three hours later 113 then an hour after that 173. My eating habits are the same as they always are. I am very tired and keep having horrible bouts of excessive sweating. Could this be a sign of diabetes? There is a lot of family history with it.
