All food is ultimately converted to sugar (glucose) inside your body. But some foods are slow in converting to glucose. These are called low-glycemic index foods, meaning they do not raise your blood sugar much. They include all proteins (meats, soy burgers, quinoa), green vegetables, red vegetables and onions. In addition, there are foods which actually lower blood sugar. These include chamomile tea and cinnamon.

There are several sugar free diabetic foods out there. Today companies have started making diabetic desserts as well by taking the sugar out and substituting it with splenda.
