  2. That is about normal, the normal range is between 70 and 150. But it is getting on the low side, so maybe you need to eat more often, or go to the doctor and get checked out.

  4. A blood glucose level of 78 before eating is about as normal as you can get. It is still possible that you may have been hypoglycemic, as fingerstick-type meters are only accurate to within +/-20 mg/dl, but I’d call it unlikely. You were probably feeling shaky for some other, unrelated reason.

As always, though, you should discuss any serious health concerns with your doctor rather than just taking the word of some guy on the internet who says he thinks you’re probably OK.

  5. thats PERFECTLY normal. do not listen to the people who say you are hypoglycemic. you are fine.

you were probably shaky because you were hungry..

  6. The information you’ve received from my friends above all has a bit of truth to it; a doctor is required. However, next time you feel a bit shaky try eating some cheese, orange, milk, meat, peanut butter…

You may be hypoglycemic. Go get a 24-panel blood test and have it all dialed in while you are young and something may be able to be done about it. And it could be nothing. Better to be safe.

  7. 78 is fine, but make sure your hands were clean before, if you ate say an apple that juice on you hands can effect the test.
Also more likely is that you body is used to being much higher, so a 78 feels low to you.
After you get your sugars into a normal range for a long time, your sensations will adjust.

  8. 78 is normal. You’re not hypoglycemic. I don’t know why you felt shaky. Perhaps you were a little under the weather.

  9. 78 is a fairly normal reading, even if marginally on the low side of normal.

However, if your blood sugar tends to be on the high side, you may feel shaky even when its not really too low, because your body can get used to high blood sugar and over react to a normal but lower than your personal average.

Test your fasting morning blood sugar, it should be between about 80 and 100.

Also test after supper, at one hour and again at two hours from the start of your meal. Your blood sugar should be between 100 and 125. If its over, you may be prediabetic.

Do this for three or four days and write down the results. If you see higher readings than these, you should get tested for diabetes.

The best test is the HbA1c, which doesn’t require fasting, and shows your average blood sugar for the past 3 months. Its not affected by what you ate for supper the night before, or what you had for breakfast that day.

Home testing meters can be up to 20% off in either direction and certainly can’t be used to diagnose diabetes. Besides, only a doctor can diagnose with any certainty.

Just FYI, your height and weight have nothing to do with it. Normal ranges are the same for everyone. Diabetes is more likely after age 40, and its a very good idea to get the HbA1c test done every year once you hit 40 or become overweight.
